Terms and Conditions

Effective from 22 August 2026. Applies to students.katlegofinance.co.za and professionals.katlegofinance.co.za

1. Introduction and Acceptance

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of Katlego Students and Katlego Professionals (together, the Platforms), operated by Katlego Nexus (Pty) Ltd, trading as Katlego Finance (referred to as Katlego, we, us, or our).

By creating an account, purchasing a module, or otherwise using either Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must also agree to these Terms on your behalf as part of the guardian consent process described in Section 6. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platforms.

2. Definitions

TermMeaning
Platform(s)Katlego Students and Katlego Professionals, individually or together as the context requires.
ModuleA single purchasable simulation, scenario, and set of related content available on a Platform.
CharacterA fictional persona created within a simulation, used to teach financial concepts. A Character is not the user and does not reflect the user's real finances unless the user chooses to enter their own numbers through the Custom Character Builder for illustrative purposes.
Take-Home ToolAn interactive questionnaire completed after a Module, using the user's own real information, that generates a downloadable workbook.
CertificateA digital credential issued on completion of a Module or a Capstone assessment, verifiable through a public link.
BundleA group of Modules sold together at a combined price.
GuardianA parent or legal guardian of a user under the age of 18.
AccountThe registered profile a user creates to access a Platform.

3. Who Can Use These Platforms

3.1 Katlego Students

Katlego Students may only be used by individuals aged 13 or older. No account may be created for anyone under the age of 13, regardless of guardian involvement. Users between the ages of 13 and 17 require verified guardian consent before their account is activated, as set out in Section 6. Users aged 18 or older may create an account without guardian consent, though may still choose to use the platform.

3.2 Katlego Professionals

Katlego Professionals may only be used by individuals aged 18 or older. At signup, users confirm they meet this requirement by way of a self-certification checkbox. Katlego is entitled to rely on this self-certification and may request further verification, or suspend an account, if it has reason to believe the confirmation was false.

4. Educational Purpose Only, Not Financial Advice

This Is The Most Important Section In This Document

The Platforms are educational simulations. Every scenario, decision, and outcome is built around a fictional Character, not the user's own real finances, real bank account, or real credit record. Nothing on either Platform constitutes financial advice, a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any financial product, or intermediary services as defined in the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 2002. Katlego is not a licensed Financial Services Provider and does not hold itself out as one through these Platforms. Calculators, Take-Home Tools, and generated workbooks are generic educational aids based only on the figures a user chooses to enter, and are not personalised advice. Users should consult a qualified, licensed financial adviser before making real financial decisions.

5. Accounts and Registration

You must provide accurate information when creating an Account and keep it up to date. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for all activity under your Account. Notify us immediately at support@katlegofinance.co.za if you suspect unauthorised use of your Account.

6. Guardian Consent and Guardian Purchase Oversight (Katlego Students Only)

Where a user on Katlego Students is between 13 and 17 years old, the following applies:

  • A verified parent or legal guardian must confirm consent, by way of a confirmation link sent to the Guardian's email address, before the Account is activated for full use.
  • Every purchase made on the Account triggers a notification to the Guardian's email address.
  • The Guardian may set an optional monthly spending cap on the Account. Once reached, further purchases are automatically paused until the Guardian raises or removes the cap.
  • The Guardian may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the minor's personal information at any time, as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • A Guardian may request a refund on behalf of a minor's purchase under the same conditions set out in our Refund Policy.

7. The Module Marketplace: Purchases, Pricing, and Access

Each Platform operates as a marketplace of individually purchasable Modules. There is no subscription and no recurring billing. Prices are set by Katlego for each Module and shown before purchase. Once purchased, a Module is unlocked for that user's Account, subject to Section 9 (the 12-month reactivation rule). Payment is processed by a third party payment provider; Katlego does not store full card details.

8. Free Preview and Free Entry Modules

Most Modules offer a short free preview before payment is required. One Module on each Platform is designated a free entry Module, which may be attempted once at no cost. Additional attempts on a free entry Module, after the free attempt has been used, are charged at a small fee shown at the time.

9. Module Access and the 12-Month Reactivation Rule

Once purchased, a user's Certificate for a Module, and any Take-Home Tool workbook they have downloaded, remain permanently theirs and permanently accessible, at no further cost, for as long as their Account exists.

The ability to replay a purchased Module's interactive scenario, or generate a new Take-Home Tool workbook for it, is available for 12 months from the date of purchase. After 12 months, replaying that Module or generating a further workbook requires a small reactivation fee, shown at the time. This does not affect the user's existing Certificate or any workbook already downloaded, both of which remain permanently available regardless of reactivation status.

10. Bundles

Modules may also be purchased together as a Bundle at a combined price lower than buying each Module individually. Purchasing a Bundle unlocks each included Module in the same way as an individual purchase. Bundles are priced and sold as a single transaction and are treated as a single purchase for the purposes of our Refund Policy.

11. Certificates

A Certificate confirms that a user completed a specific Module, or a Capstone assessment spanning several Modules, on a specific date. A Certificate is not a nationally accredited qualification, is not registered with the South African Qualifications Authority unless expressly stated otherwise on the Certificate itself, and does not guarantee any employment, admission, or other outcome. Certificates can be verified by anyone using the public verification link issued with them, which displays only the certificate holder's first name and the relevant track name.

12. Take-Home Tools and Generated Workbooks

Take-Home Tools ask users to enter their own real information (for example, their own spending or savings figures) to generate a personal, downloadable workbook. This is different from the fictional Character simulation described in Section 4. Workbooks are generated from the figures the user enters and are provided as a generic educational template. Katlego does not verify the accuracy of information a user enters and is not responsible for decisions made using a generated workbook.

13. User Content and Uploads

Users may optionally upload a personal photograph to personalise a goal visualisation within a simulation. Users retain ownership of any photograph they upload. By uploading a photograph, a user grants Katlego a limited licence to store and display that image back to them within their own Account. Uploaded photographs are private to the uploading user's Account and are not made public or shared with other users. Users must only upload images they own or have the right to use, and must not upload images depicting anyone other than themselves without that person's consent.

14. Institutional Licensing

Universities, schools, employers, and other organisations may purchase bulk access under a separate institutional licensing agreement. Where an institutional agreement is in place, its specific terms govern access, pricing, and cancellation for those seats, and take precedence over this Section in the event of a conflict.

15. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • share your Account or login details with anyone else, or use another person's Account without permission;
  • attempt to circumvent the free preview, purchase, or reactivation mechanisms described in this document;
  • use automated tools to scrape, copy, or extract Platform content;
  • misrepresent a Certificate as an accredited qualification it is not, or alter a Certificate in any way;
  • upload unlawful, abusive, or harmful content, or content depicting another person without their consent;
  • attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or interfere with the operation of either Platform.

16. Intellectual Property

All Platform content, including scenarios, characters, illustrations, branding, and underlying software, is owned by Katlego or its licensors and protected by applicable intellectual property law. Purchasing a Module grants you a personal, non-transferable licence to use that Module for your own learning. It does not grant you any right to copy, resell, or commercially exploit Platform content. You retain ownership of any workbook file generated for you and may use it for your own personal purposes.

17. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Platforms are provided on an as-is basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Katlego disclaims all warranties regarding uninterrupted or error-free operation. Nothing in this Section limits any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008, or any other applicable law. Subject to that, Katlego's total liability arising out of your use of a Platform is limited to the amount you paid for the specific Module or Bundle giving rise to the claim.

18. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Katlego against any claim arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of a Platform, or content you upload in violation of Section 13 or 15.

19. Suspension and Termination

Katlego may suspend or terminate an Account that breaches these Terms, including misuse of Certificates, sharing of Accounts, or provision of false age information. Users may close their Account at any time by contacting support@katlegofinance.co.za, subject to the data retention rules in our Privacy Policy.

20. Changes to the Service and These Terms

Katlego may update these Terms from time to time, including to add new Modules, adjust pricing bands, or reflect changes in the law. Material changes will be notified through the Platform or by email before they take effect. Continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

21. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts, without prejudice to any right you have to refer a complaint to a regulator listed in Section 22.

22. Complaints and Regulatory Bodies

If you have a privacy complaint we have not resolved to your satisfaction, you may contact the Information Regulator of South Africa. If you have a consumer complaint, you may contact the National Consumer Commission. Contact details for both are available on their respective official websites.
